Press Glass rose to the challenge –
creating custom colored laminated glass in vibrant hues!
Press Glass Customer, Glass Projects Resources ordered custom laminated glass lites for their job The Purple Line, a rail service that will provide public transportation from New Carrollton to Bethesda, Maryland including twenty-one boarding stations.
The Purple Line is one of the most uniquely custom jobs Press Glass Inc. has been awarded. While not substantial in total square footage, it is significant in customization and creativity. Press Glass fabricated approximately 1,800 square feet of specialty custom colored laminated glass for this portion of the design – purposed for glass canopies over The Purple Line’s boarding stations. The meticulous fabrication process called for laminated lites consisting of four or more interlayers of varying colors per unit.
The result? While patrons wait for their rail bus, they can enjoy a rainbow of colors overhead known as “Chroma Zone.” Chroma Zone creates a unique experience for those below where the sun’s light or lack thereof casts bright or muted colors onto the ground or on anything situated beneath the canopy. This creates a dynamic environment that changes with the movement of the sun and clouds.
The colors of the canopy were intentionally selected to represent school spirit for the University of Maryland and the partnership of The Purple Line which will be a convenient transportation service for its students – making the precise fabrication by Press Glass all the more important!
